Our Mission

Building unity through culture, and empowering communities.

Our purpose is to bring together youths, students, families, and the people in the communities of Massachusetts to build unity, celebrate cultural diversity, encourage community participation that builds leadership skills and service-minded values, provide student scholarships, and promote awareness of Vietnamese culture, language, and history. We proudly share with you the events and accomplishments of the Cultural Empowerment Organization in the last few months.

About us

Celebrating culture, building community

Founded in 2022 and rooted in the heart of Massachusetts, the Cultural Empowerment Organization (CEO) is a Vietnamese American-led nonprofit born from a simple but powerful belief,  that every community deserves to see itself reflected, celebrated, and heard.

We started as a small group of passionate volunteers who wanted to do more than preserve culture, we wanted to activate it. From hands-on Bánh Chưng workshops during Lunar New Year to the vibrant lights of our Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival, CEO creates free, welcoming spaces where Vietnamese heritage comes alive across generations.

Our Impressive Work

Keeping our roots alive for generations to come

Cultural Preservation & Heritage Education

Vietnamese culture is rich, layered, and deeply meaningful — and it deserves to be celebrated, not forgotten. At CEO, we believe that cultural preservation is not just about looking back — it is about giving the next generation something powerful to stand on.

Through immersive, hands-on programming, we bring Vietnamese traditions to life in ways that are educational, joyful, and accessible to everyone. Our Bánh Chưng workshops invite community members to gather around a shared table and learn the centuries-old art of preparing this iconic Lunar New Year dish — sticky rice, mung beans, and pork wrapped in banana leaves — just as generations before us have done. Our Tết celebrations honor the Vietnamese New Year with traditional music, food, decorations, and rituals that connect participants to their heritage in a deeply personal way.

Beyond food and festivals, we offer cultural education sessions on Vietnamese history, language, and customs — creating informed, proud, and culturally grounded community members who carry their heritage forward with confidence.

Empowering the next generation to lead with purpose

Youth Development & Leadership

The young people in our community carry within them the stories of their families, the resilience of their ancestors, and the potential to shape the future. CEO is committed to making sure they have every opportunity to realize that potential.

Our youth development programming goes beyond after-school activities. We create intentional spaces where young Vietnamese Americans and AAPI youth can explore their cultural identity, develop civic awareness, and build the leadership skills needed to make a difference in their communities. Through mentorship from community elders and professionals, participation in community organizing, and exposure to civic processes, our youth learn that their voices matter — and that their cultural background is a strength, not a barrier.

We have seen shy students become confident speakers. We have watched young people who once felt caught between two worlds discover that they can fully inhabit both. That transformation is at the heart of everything we do for youth development.

Building stronger families, one connection at a time

Family & Community Engagement

In Vietnamese culture, family is everything. At CEO, we honor that value by creating programs that bring families together — not just to celebrate, but to support, strengthen, and uplift one another.

Our family engagement initiatives create opportunities for parents, grandparents, children, and extended family members to participate side by side in cultural activities, community events, and educational programs. We understand that many families in our community are navigating the unique challenges of immigrant and refugee life — balancing cultural expectations with the demands of life in America, bridging generational gaps between parents and children, and finding community in a new place.

CEO serves as a bridge — between generations, between cultures, and between community members who might otherwise feel isolated. When families feel supported and connected, entire communities grow stronger.

Our stories, told in our own voices

Arts & Cultural Expression

Art has always been one of the most powerful tools a community has to declare its existence, assert its dignity, and share its truth. For Vietnamese Americans and AAPI communities who have too often been rendered invisible in mainstream media and cultural spaces, artistic expression is not just creative — it is revolutionary.

CEO actively creates platforms for Vietnamese and AAPI artists, performers, and creatives to share their work and tell their stories on their own terms. From traditional Vietnamese performing arts — including music, dance, and poetry — to contemporary visual art, film, and digital storytelling, we celebrate the full spectrum of AAPI creative expression.

Our cultural events are intentionally designed as stages for community artists. Our Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival, for example, is not just a celebration — it is a showcase of cultural artistry, where lantern-making, traditional performances, and community creativity take center stage. We believe that every act of cultural expression is an act of belonging.

Investing in students, investing in our future

Scholarships & Educational Support

For many Vietnamese American and AAPI families, the dream of higher education is deeply held but not always easily within reach. Financial barriers, language challenges, and limited access to academic guidance can stand between a talented student and their full potential. CEO is determined to change that.

Our scholarship program provides direct financial support to deserving Vietnamese American and AAPI students pursuing higher education across Massachusetts. But our commitment to educational support goes beyond financial assistance. We connect students with mentors, academic resources, and a community of peers who understand their experiences and champion their success.

We believe that when a student in our community succeeds, the entire community rises with them. Every scholarship we award is a statement — that this community sees you, believes in you, and is investing in your future.

No one navigates this alone

Community Support & Referrals

The path of an immigrant, a refugee, or a first-generation American is filled with remarkable courage — and very real challenges. Language barriers, unfamiliar systems, limited social networks, and cultural isolation can make even basic tasks feel overwhelming. CEO is here to make that path a little less difficult.

Our community support services connect individuals and families with the resources they need to stabilize, thrive, and fully participate in community life. Whether someone needs a referral to affordable housing resources, legal assistance, employment support, social services, or healthcare navigation — CEO serves as a trusted, culturally informed guide.

We work to ensure that no member of our community falls through the cracks simply because they did not know where to turn. In a world that can feel unwelcoming, CEO is a consistent, warm, and reliable presence for those who need it most.

Caring for the whole community

Health, Wellness & Community Awareness

Health is not just physical — it is cultural, emotional, and communal. For many members of the Vietnamese American and AAPI community, accessing health and wellness resources can be complicated by language barriers, cultural stigma, mistrust of institutions, and lack of culturally competent care. CEO is working to change that.

Through health awareness initiatives and wellness programming, we bring important health information directly to our community in ways that are culturally sensitive, linguistically accessible, and community-centered. From mental health awareness — addressing the unique stressors faced by immigrants, refugees, and first-generation Americans — to preventive health education and wellness workshops, CEO equips community members with the knowledge and tools to take care of themselves and their families.

We also amplify awareness around issues that disproportionately affect AAPI communities — from anti-Asian hate and discrimination to food insecurity and housing instability — because awareness is the first step toward action.

Service is how we show up for each other

Volunteerism & Community Service

Every event CEO has ever hosted, every workshop we have run, every lantern that has been lit at our Mid-Autumn Festival — none of it would be possible without our extraordinary volunteers. Volunteerism is not just a logistical necessity at CEO — it is a core expression of our values.

We believe that giving back to your community is one of the most meaningful things a person can do. Our volunteer programs create flexible, welcoming opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels to contribute their time, skills, and energy to something that matters. Students build leadership experience and fulfil service hours. Professionals share their expertise. Elders pass on wisdom and cultural knowledge. Everyone has something to give — and CEO creates the space for that giving to happen.

Volunteering with CEO is not just about helping others. It is about becoming part of a community that shows up for itself — with joy, with pride, and with purpose.

Celebration as a form of community building

Festivals, Events & Public Outreach

There is something profoundly powerful about a community gathering together to celebrate who they are. CEO’s festivals and public events are not just parties — they are acts of cultural assertion, community solidarity, and public visibility that say loudly and clearly: we are here, we are proud, and we belong.

Our flagship events — including the beloved Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival and our Lunar New Year celebrations — draw community members from across Massachusetts for evenings filled with traditional food, music, performances, lantern-making, and cultural activities. These events are always free and open to everyone, because we believe that cultural celebration should never have a price tag.

Beyond our flagship events, CEO engages in year-round public outreach — attending community fairs, partnering with local organizations, participating in civic events, and showing up wherever our community gathers. We are not just an organization that hosts events — we are an active, visible, and committed presence in the communities we serve.

Every event we host is an invitation — to connect, to celebrate, to belong.
